Protect America’s Wireless Statement on T-Mobile/Sprint Merger Developments

In response to the recent reports around the proposed T-Mobile/Sprint merger, Protect America’s Wireless spokesman David Wade released the following statement:

“The national security community raised their concerns about the proposed T-Mobile/Sprint merger because of  Deutsche Telekom’s close ties with Huawei and their previous work with the Chinese company to deploy 5G around the world.

“At no point during this merger process did T-Mobile or Deutsche Telekom ever make a clear, enforceable commitment to not use Huawei around the world.  In fact, the 5G commitments promised by T-Mobile suggest it may need to rely heavily on Deutsche Telekom’s partnership with Huawei if it is going to meet the buildout timelines. You can’t consider this merger without discussing  our national security and the fight to secure control over our digital future. This is the moment for that discussion.”
